At Nutriset, innovation and high quality production start with engineering know-how.
At our Malaunay plant, engineering specialists use cutting-edge processing, handling, packaging and storage equipment and automatic systems to assure the safety, quality and stability of each product we produce.
Engineering innovation is also behind Nutriset’s commitment to build sustainable production systems in developing countries. All members of the PlumpyField® Network – a network of 10 private companies and a non-profit organization that act as franchisees to produce and distribute Nutriset products in many of the world’s hunger hotspots – receive technical assistance to promote technology transfer, including training from 14 full-time Nutriset engineers whose sole responsibility is to support the franchise partners.
Our focus on engineering is also behind the development in 2010 of OptiNut, a production kit with the machinery and systems built in so local producers can manufacture Plumpy’Nut® and our other nutritional pastes at the lowest possible cost, but with no decrease in quality. OptiNut is easy to transport, install and maintain and within days of implementation, allows local producers to produce sachets of 100 metric tons per month.
In 2001, Nutriset built a new factory in Malaunay, France, using state-of-the-art technology and quality control processes to optimize the manufacturing of innovative products to treat malnutrition -- from the procurement of raw materials to the packaging of the finished goods. As a result, annual production capacity of Nutriset’s product line has steadily increased, reaching 60,000 tons in 2011.

Mastering food industry engineering
At Nutriset, our commitment to invent and produce nutritional solutions to global malnutrition impacts everything we do. We are constantly working to improve our industrial processes at every step in the production chain – from the milling and mixing of raw materials to our packaging methods and how we use technological additives to maintain the nutritional value and enhance the flavor and appearance of our products.
Adapting to fluctuations in demand
Whether the cause is severe drought, a natural disaster or a regional conflict, food crises occur unexpectedly and require an immediate response. That is why the Nutriset factory was designed with extra capacity and production lines so we can quickly increase the output of needed nutritional products to respond to the urgent orders from our humanitarian partners.
Today, we maintain a production capacity that allows us, if necessary, to virtually double the metric tons of nutritional foods we produce and distribute during a food emergency. Depending on the need, we are able to increase daily production output from 0 to 200 tons within the space of a few days. Within a few months, we have the capacity to produce up to 70,000 tons of nutritional products per year.
